Archaeological Interpretation of Aerial Photographs

To be able to archaeologically interpret aerial photographs, two preconditions must be fulfilled:  

• Knowledge of the determining factors, why buried archaeological sites become visible.  
• Knowledge of the appearance of archaeological structures.  

Usually, interpretation involves 2 steps: photo reading and detailed mapping.
